Aim of Course

OCR have worked closely with teachers and the Youth Sport Trust to develop a new GCSE Physical Education specification that will inspire teaching and learning. New and contemporary topics will help students of all abilities to develop a well-rounded skill set and prepare them for progression to further studies.

Paper 1: Physical factors affecting performance

What's assessed

  • Applied anatomy and physiology
  • Movement analysis
  • Physical training

How it's assessed

  • Written exam: 1 hour
  • 60 marks
  • 30% of GCSE
  • A mixture of multiple choice/objective test questions, short answer questions and extended answer questions.

Paper 2: Socio-cultural issues and sports psychology

What's assessed

  • Sports psychology
  • Socio-cultural influences
  • Health, fitness and well-being

How it's assessed

  • Written exam: 1 hour
  • 60 marks
  • 30% of GCSE
  • A mixture of multiple choice/objective test questions, short answer questions and extended answer questions.

Practical Performance (80 marks 40%)

Students will be assessed in three different activities in the role of player/performer.

Activities include:

  • Athletics
  • Badminton
  • Handball
  • Basketball
  • Cricket
  • Netball
  • Trampolining
  • Contemporary Dance

(Students can also be assessed in selected sports they do outside of school)

 Key Stage 5 Progression/ Career Prospects

A Level PE can be undertaken at Bentley Wood High School and within the collegiate. Sport and Leisure is a rapidly growing industry which offers a wide spectrum of careers for the future.
